Growing Tips
-
Light: Snake plants are very adaptable to light conditions. They thrive in bright, indirect sunlight but can tolerate low light conditions. Avoid too much direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
-
Water: Since they are succulents, snake plants don’t require frequent watering. In fact, overwatering is one of the leading causes of death for snake plants. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the winter months, you may only need to water your snake plant once a month or even less.
-
Soil: Plant your snake plant in a well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix.
-
Temperature: Snake plants prefer warm temperatures between 70°F and 90°F. They cannot tolerate frost and prolonged exposure to temperatures below 50°F can damage or kill the plant.
-
Fertilizer: You don’t necessarily need to fertilize your snake plant, but if you choose to do so, a weak, balanced fertilizer applied once or twice during the growing season (spring and summer) is sufficient.
-
Repotting: Snake plants are slow growers and don’t require frequent repotting. Repot only when the plant outgrows its current pot, typically every few years. Choose a pot with drainage holes that is only slightly larger than the root ball.
With proper care, your snake plant can thrive for many years and add a touch of modern style to your home.
